8 guys in my Tankerman PIC DL, 6 of them have never been on tankers, and are looking to get a certification for an entry level position. The school has combined the training for tankerman assistant, tankerman barge, tankerman engineer and tankerman PIC all together, and so we're going into stuff that my newbie colleagues can not understand, and will never use.
They're a good bunch of guys, but they're not hewn from Chief Mate timber. And this is making the class drag, as they ask questions unrelated to the material, and the instructor doesn't have the discipline to not answer them, and just move on. This class is like "chewing glass" as one of the fellows said.
But 2 days down, 3 to go.
