Leonard Cohen Hallelujah
I did my best, it wasn't much I couldn't feel, so I tried to touch I've told the truth, I didn't come to fool you And even though It all went wrong I'll stand before the Lord of Song With nothing on my tongue but Hallelujah
Leonard sang the one you posted in a bit higher key than the version I'd heard before. I really like Leonard's music--a lot of it kind of matches up with my ... depressive negative personality, and I love the timbre of his voice.
I stumbled across Jeff Buckley's cover, and find it just so so. I saw Leonard Cohen: I'm your Man last June, and really liked Rufus Wainwrights take on this song.
I rather like Jeff Buckley's version. Are you familiar with his music? I guess he hung aroud and played in sang in New York for a while before he died in 97. I've never actually listened to anything by him except this one song, but I like it, and I intend to buy one of his cd's someday.

ReplyDeleteI discovered Leonard from watching Pump up the Volume, bought The Essential Leonard Cohen, and it's been in regular rotation on my MP3 playlist ever since.
